How about another flash mob, Ottawa? (One for a cause …)

We heard talk on Twitter yesterday about another flash mob going down at the St. Laurent Shopping Centre.

While the staged-but-often-surprising events have been popping up throughout the city over the past little while — you might remember Canada Day, Carleton University on ice and a Byward Market dance party — this one was all about kick-starting something bigger: A fundraiser for The Ottawa Hospital.

About 60 people decked out in white lab coats gathered at St. Laurent’s food court around noon on Thursday and they rocked it to Robert Palmer’s Bad Case of Lovin’ You.

The goal? Draw attention to the start of “The White Coat Challenge,” which is seeking to raise at least $250,000 to update equipment at The Ottawa Hospital Cancer Centre for patients undergoing chemotherapy. The Ottawa Hospital treats about 21,000 cancer patients annually.
