Oh, the season of shopping, socializing … and saving

If you spend any amount of time on the Internet these days, you’d know that group-buying websites are all the rage. While such sites are a great way to tighten the purse strings following a busy holiday season, we at LTOttawa also love them because they offer up some great ideas to get us out and about during a time of year that we’d usually cuddle up indoors, ignoring our great city.

Everything from food to services to activities are offered; some examples that have popped up in recent weeks include reduced admission to the Museum of Civilization, as well as the Canadian Aviation and Space Museum, discount skate sharpening, a three-hour cooking class and my fave, half-price cupcakes!

In the true spirit of this blog — and the social holiday season — here’s a short list of some group-buying sites we frequent to get your calender rolling for 2011.

www.dealoftheday.redflagdeals.com

www.dealticker.ca

www.groupon.com

www.kahoot.ca

www.kijijideals.ca

www.livingsocial.com

www.swarmjam.com

AND, some up-and-comers to watch for in the future:

www.fabfind.com

www.townhog.com

www.twongo.com

www.yipit.com

***Some of these operate in our neighbour to the south, Toronto, so if you’re planning a trip, think ahead!

BUT, before you browse or buy: Be aware that an email address is often required, resulting in one deal send to the account a day, and there is often a lag time before you receive your deal.

Happy Shopping!
