About the project

Home to about 865,000 people, Ottawa is Canada’s capital and the country’s fourth largest city.

For as long as we’ve lived here, we’ve heard visitors and residents alike describe Ottawa as a big city that feels like a small town.  The city is home to great art galleries, fantastic music festivals, delicious local food markets, and of course Parliament Hill – a favourite for politics and news junkies.

Despite everything that is great about Ottawa, far too often we’ve heard people make the joke that it is the “city that fun forgot.” We’re here to prove otherwise.

Local Tourist Ottawa is a space to feature the best of Ottawa. We encourage you to contribute guest blogs that share what you believe makes this city great.

This project is a compilation of the editors’ vow to participate more in our own community, as well as our readers’ contributions: as we explore our city, we encourage everyone else to do the same.

Written by hundreds of contributors across the city and province, here you will find features on your favourite people, places and things – but most of all – you will find a little bit of motivation to get out and enjoy Canada’s capital.
