Ring in New Year’s 2011 with the spirit of New York

What are you doing for New Year's?

Samantha Moonsammy is the Creative Director of STARFISH creative events + inspiration.

This is one of my favourite blogs in the city because it really speaks to the beautiful, exciting city we live in and I always say, Ottawa is the best city in the world.  Working in the events industry I get to see everyday the amazing talent we have all around us.  And if I don’t see it – my team and I at STARFISH creative events love to make it happen.

That is very true to why we have been hosting an elaborate New Year’s Eve party for the past four years.  It all started because our team was looking for something new and different to ring in the New Year.  While we enjoyed all the great nightclubs and elaborate five-course meals across the city we thought it was time for something new.

So we started to create elaborate themed parties for New Year’s Eve and hosted them on the penthouse floor of the former Crowne Plaza Hotel (now Delta City Centre).  These parties welcomed more than 500 guests who loved to dress up, eat, drink, dance and celebrate New Year’s Eve in style.

Some of our themes included:

  • 2011 – Carnival
  • 2010 – Hollywood comes to Ottawa
  • 2009 – On Top of the World

We always had some surprises in the evening with surprise live entertainment, amazing door prizes and great hotel packages so the majority of guests would stay overnight at enjoy an Ottawa “staycation.”  Every year kept getting better and better and we saw the same familiar faces at our parties so that was the green light to keep doing what we know best – throw a great party!

So here we are about to hit 2012 – and this year is off the charts, tickets sales are through the roof, hotel rooms are booking up fast and we are so thrilled with the response! The theme this year is I love NY and it will take place at the Marriott Hotel, 100 Kent Street, doors open at 8pm and tickets are $65.

We also wanted to make sure we take this opportunity to give back to our community so we are donating $2 from every ticket sold to MusiCounts and we are hosting an auction with 12 Prizes for 2012 and 100 per cent of the auction proceeds supports this amazing charity who is keeping music programs in our schools (and is the official charity of the 2012 Juno Awards – coming to Ottawa in March!)

Some notable prizes include a weekend getaway to New York City for two people (3 days/2 nights flight and hotel) from our amazing sponsor Billings Bridge Centre  and tickets to the 2012 Juno Awards in Ottawa to name a few.

So if you want to party for a cause this New Year’s Eve we hope you can join us at our New Year’s Eve Party: I love NY.   For tickets call our hotline at: 613.762.3622 or 613.261.1588.

I would like to wish everyone in Ottawa a very happy new year. Remember to take the time to enjoy our beautiful city – it’s always there to welcome you with open arms.
